RETIERE Alain

Alain Retière is a self-taught artist whose pictorial universe is part of a sensitive and luminous approach to contemporary figuration. Born in Nantes in 1954, he discovered painting at a very young age thanks to an old box of oil paints, the starting point of a vocation that has remained intact over the years. Enriched by his travels and his attentive gaze on the world, his work explores urban landscapes, ports, scenes of life, and maritime atmospheres with great compositional finesse.

Through a subtle palette and remarkable work on light, Alain Retière captures the emotion of places as much as their memory. His attachment to the landscapes of the West and coastal atmospheres gives his canvases a poetic and timeless dimension. Influenced notably by Edward Hopper and the Impressionists, he develops a contemplative painting where silence, space, and color dialogue with elegance.
